Hello My name is Jermaine Barrett, I'm raising funds for Jamaica to help the victims of Hurricane Melissa!
On October 18th I travelled to Jamaica after hearing the week before My father had been unwell I booked a last minute flight to Jamaica. On the way to the Airport I decided to check the weather and realised the weather forecasted rain and thunder for the whole 10 days I was there which was very peculiar as I had never seen that before when travelling to Jamaica. When I arrived it was overcast and I felt a funny vibe, nevertheless I collected my hired car and drove to Black River to surprise My Father, Grandmother, Aunty,Uncle & cousins in black river after spending a lovely week with them in around Black River visiting the markets and local stores and going to Church with My Dad & Grandma, I realised Hurricane Melissa had took a 90 degree turn and was heading straight to Jamaica and the Eye of the Hurricane was actually going to be in Black River! My flight and all inbound flights got cancelled so thats when we all started realising the severity of the situation, everyone was in the stores stocking up and preparing for the hurricane ! I unfortunately had to make a heartbreaking decision to leave my family in Black River so I could be up on the North coast so I could be near airports for when flights ressumed after the Hurricane ... So I went to Negril and resided there till after the Hurricane then had to travel up to Montego Bay through Lucea there was destruction everywhere
As we all know the Hurricane absolutely devastated certain areas of Jamaica and Black River was decimated to almost nothing absolute carnage everywhere, no one had a roof left and many families lost there homes, My Grandmother church I attended the week before has gone. the town centre , the market, the other church, large parts of the school and hospital all gone.. Most buildings badly damaged and debris everywhere as well as sand everywhere where the ocean and rivers breached there banks. All electric and power lines were down there were 100 year old trees ripped out the roots and blocking roads. Also Negril and Montego Bay was just as bad too..
Jamaica needs a lot of help and support right now and to be there first hand to see the devastation it has caused I believe it my duty to raise funds for the community's especially Black river, Montego Bay and Negril who all looked after me and who were the most affected. I want to help build back and repair the areas, to send products and materials from the UK in Barrels and Containers , to help provide skilled labour to help repairs, to provide infrastructure, opportunities, employment for the people of these affected areas to help redevelopment.
So any contribution of funds will be appreciated to help the cause, all funds spent will be receipted and documented for accountability on where the donations of funds have been spent.
Thanks for reading and Thanks for your donations in advance
Kind Regards
Jermaine Barrett
