Jamie's Jamboree Journey

I am a 16-year-old Explorer Scout selected to attend the 2023 Korean World Scout Jamboree. I also volunteer as a young leader weekly, helping with one of our Scout Troops.

The World Scout Jamboree is an event that takes place once every four years and is an international meeting of Scouts from all across the world. The aim is to unite the Scouting family, overcoming any personal challenges someone might face because of where they were born. It lasts 12 days, and during this time, all representatives will meet new people and participate in activities together across a vast site (over 4km long). All kinds of scouting activities will be on offer. It is an incredible opportunity for all involved, but especially for those who may not have access to anything like it back in their home nation. Of course, something like this costs money; clearly, some people are more able to pay for this than people in other countries. People in the UK have to pay roughly £3,895 to take up their place once selected from their peers. This amount covers our costs and supports Scouts in poorer countries who would otherwise have no way of raising the required funds. Donating here is much more than just helping one person: your money will support thousands across the globe. It could not happen without some Scouts subsidising everyone. Given what an incredible event it is, I'm sure you agree it is in everyone’s interest to get as many people there as possible.

2/11/22: I am doing a climbing challenge today at Clip n' Climb Cambridge, where a group of us will attempt to climb the height of Mount Hallasan, the tallest mountain in South Korea, in under an hour.
