Jamie's Half Marathon Run for Greyhounds

Donation protected
I’ve just completed a half marathon (21.1kms) after 13 weeks of training. I started my training, with no consistent running experience behind me, with a 2.7km run on January 2nd. Fast forward to today, 33 runs, 230kms, one half marathon and zero beers later and I am immensely proud of what I have achieved.

Given that running has given me so much, I have decided to try and give something back. I have teamed up with a wonderful charity called H.U.G. (Homes for Unwanted greyhounds). HUG is a registered charity based in Ireland which aims to find loving homes for retired Irish racing greyhounds and promote a positive image of the breed as pets throughout Ireland.

My partner and I have our own lurcher (half greyhound) rescue Sasha, since 2018 and she means the absolute world to us. She is the most caring, affectionate and compassionate dog we have ever met and we are so lucky she is in our lives. As such, this charity means an awful lot to us as we have a huge fondness for all greyhounds and lurchers. We know first hand that they make wonderful pets and companions due to their docile nature and couch potatoness.

But unfortunately, many of them are often mistreated, exploited for their speed and find themselves unwanted and abandoned at relatively young ages, requiring rescuing. Charities like HUG play a vital role in rescuing and re homing these beautiful dogs and rely solely on public donations to do so. That’s why I’ve decided to donate €100 myself and would be eternally grateful if you could support my fundraising effort, no matter how small and contribute to rescuing greyhounds that really need your help!

Thanks a million,
Jamie
