Jamie's Echo

Hi, my name is James Grealis, myself and my wife Mary are trying to rase €100,000 to buy an Echo machine for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Mayo university hospital Castlebar. Our son Jamie was born on 30th of April 2023 in Mayo university hospital, Jamie was born with down syndrome so he spent the first two weeks of his life in SCBU. The 24hr care Jamie received in the Special care baby unit was above and beyond, anyone who has experienced the SCBU in Mayo will tell you the same. On the 29th of June 2023 Jamie became unwell, he was rushed by ambulance to Crumlin children's hospital. Jamie passed away on the 30th of June in Crumlin hospital. On meeting with doctors, nurses and medical staff in Mayo university hospital we have identified the urgent requirement of an echocardiographic machine for SCBU, by having this machine in Castlebar this will save sending any sick baby in an ambulance to Galway for an echo. Taking a sick baby to another hospital is a huge risk and for a simple procedure it takes 1 national ambulance 2 paramedics 1 paediatric doctor and 1 SCBU nurse out of the county for a full day. This is not just another charity ! This is for a machine that will benefit everyone that uses Castlebar hospital, your baby your brother, sister, mother or grandparents. Although it will be based in SCBU it will be there for the benefit of everyone that requires an Echo.
