On September 24, 2022, Jamie was involved in a tragic accident. He and his father, Dale, were enjoying a weekend at the family's hunting cabin. Dale woke up to a loud noise. There had been an explosion. Dale broke down a door to get to Jamie, loaded him into the truck and brought him to an ambulance nearby. The local ambulance met a Marshfield ambulance on the highway and transported him to the Marshfield Medical Center. Upon evaluation, he was quickly transferred to the UW Hospital Burn Center in Madison, WI.
Jamie’s dog, Minnie was with him during the accident. Dale and Rosann brought her to an animal hospital that day, and she needed a lot of care. She’s recovering well and is happy, but she will be even happier when she sees Jamie.
Jamie endured severe burns (in multiple locations) and inhalation injuries. Shortly after his arrival, his condition worsened, and he was moved to the Trauma and Life Support Center (TLC). On top of his burn injuries, Jamie had sepsis, a lung infection and his blood oxygen levels were declining. He was put on life support for the next three weeks and underwent multiple surgeries. Jamie's ventilator, trach and continuous dialysis were slowly removed as time continued. He continues to fight and do more on his own every day.
After 49 days of being hospitalized, Jamie hugged his boys, Soren and Magnus, for the first time.
The UW medical staff is astounded at how tight-knit Jamie’s family and friends are. Every day, he has had someone by his side. The loyalty and love surrounding him speak to what a wonderful person Jamie is. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity, love and prayers.
Jamie's strength and positive mindset have always been two of his superhero powers, and they’re coming in handy more now than ever. While Jamie's road to recovery continues, we have set up a fund to help with his insurmountable medical costs.
Let's fight together.
