A week after giving birth to her twins on October 29, 2018, Jamie was admitted to the Cardiac Unit at Bryan East Hospital while the twins, Liam and Avyanna were in the NICU. Jamie had developed Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, a rare form of heart failure that develops during or soon after pregnancy. Her heart had an ejection fraction of 10-15% while a normal functioning heart operate at 55%. She spent two weeks in the cardiac unit trying to get stabilized on medication.
On November 13, 2018, Jamie, Liam, and Avyanna were all released from the hospital. Jamie was very eager to join her husband, Chris, and their 2 year old son Caleb at home and enjoy their new family of 5. Thankfully the twins were given a clean bill of health. It was the hope of the doctors that the medications would work for Jamie at home by building her heart back up. Unfortunately, two days after being released Jamie was back in the hospital.
Over the last 3 months she has been in and out of the hospital 4 times. Constant medication adjustments have taken place over that time and unfortunately after visiting with specialists at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, it was determined that medication alone will not be able to build her heart back up and that she will require a heart transplant to get better and live her life again. Jamie is currently at UNMC.
She has been evaluated by a team of doctors working on her transplant. The doctors have determined that her heart is in such poor condition that she needs a transplant. Unfortunately Jamie’s antibody blood results weren’t favorable for an immediate heart transplant. Doctors will perform an LVAD and she will be sent home to wait until a heart becomes available. Jamie will have a minimum stay at UNMC of 3 to 4 weeks recovering from the LVAD surgery.
It is the hope that some of the financial burden of the medical procedures coupled with two new additions to the family could be eased for Jamie and her family. There will be tremendous upcoming costs associated with these procedures and lifelong expenses for Jamie. In addition to the medical costs, there will be extra costs associated with travel expenses for food, lodging, gas for Chris and extra care for Caleb, Liam and Avyanna when necessary. No gift is too small and all donations will be considered a tremendous blessing. A CaringBridge site has been set up on Jamie’s behalf.

The happy day when Jamie, Liam, and Avyanna went home from the hospital. Unfortunately Jamie would be back in the hospital a few days later.

Despite all her recent health setbacks, Jamie remains a loving mom, wife, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend to those around her.
