Single Mom Needs a Boost

Dear Friends:
Roy and I are trying to help a very dear friend and single mom who is working hard to get on her feet in every way. We would love your help.
Jamie had a very rough start in life (think Mommy Dearest) and over the past 5 years she has struggled with many demons. She is now living in a women's home for mothers and is doing very well. She is 14 months clean and sober. Her daughter Willow is absolutely precious and will turn 1 on July 31.
Jamie is working so hard to get on her feet financially, but she doesn't have a car, so it's a real grind, as you can imagine. She is super responsible and up to date on her paperwork required to get public assistance with food stamps and welfare. She doesn't get much welfare now that she is working, however. (She is only making $10 an hour, but whatever she makes gets deducted from her welfare check.) Jamie wants desperately to get out of the "system", as the red tape and beauracracy is unbelievably disempowering (I've driven her several times to these government offices located in South Central Los Angeles so she can get the assistance she needs and sometimes she'll come back to the car with nothing in hand, as she's at the mercy of her caseworkers and whether they show up that day for work!).
Anyway, we want to help her get a reliable car so she can get a better job and be able to work more hours (right now she has to walk 1 mile each way, twice a day, to get Willow to daycare, which minimizes her work availability and thus her earning capacity...).
Jamie is not one to take advantage of anyone's generosity. She expects nothing, but is so sincerely grateful for whatever help she receives from anywhere (and the home she lives in has been very good and helpful to her and her daughter).
We want to help Jamie get enough money for a reliable car, inspection, insurance, and gas for 3 months, but we really want it to be a team effort with our family and friends, if possible. We think it would really touch Jamie's heart to know that so many people are rooting for her and wanting her to break out of the system...and to really succeed.
Jamie has a background in real estate administration and is currently appying for jobs in that arena. But every job she seems qualified for requires that she have a car.
Will you please donate? Anything you can offer will make a difference. And it will be used solely to help ease Jamie's burden and get her driving so she can get a better job, provide for Willow and eventually move out of her communal living situation.
