Jamie Vickers's House Repair Fund

Jamie Vickers is a 37-year-old widow; her husband passed away suddenly at the age of 36 in July of 2014. She is raising 3 children (ages 14, 17, and 20) as a single parent. In addition to working through her own grief, as well as the grief of her children, she has had the stress of going back to work to provide for them all.
Living out her heart for disadvantaged people, Jamie had worked for 9 1/2 years at Cardinal Center, Warsaw, IN, as a Direct Support Professional, then spent some years at home raising her own children and babysitting other children part-time. Following her husband’s death in 2014, she began working at Jefferson Elementary in Winona Lake, IN, as a paraprofessional. She loved the job and was highly regarded for her contributions, but, due to state requirements of the position, she was unable to keep her job. Jamie is now working on her Associate Degree in Human Services, hoping to finish by December, 2017. She needs to go back to work before she loses the Social Security benefits for dependent children following her husband’s death. Her long-term desire is to earn a Bachelor’s Degree.
Jamie is now coping with an additional issue: problems with the home in which she and her husband raised their family have become critical. She has been told that the foundation under one of the rooms is rotting, causing the floor to sink and put stress on the frame of the rest of the house, creating structural problems. Jamie has obtained estimates and learned that the expense to rectify this is $20,000.
Jamie has been unable to obtain a loan because she is currently unemployed and her Social Security income will go away as her children reach 18. As her friends, we would dearly love to help this tender-hearted, courageous, faithful woman. She would never ask for herself.
