Jamie Rideout (34) - Stay at home mother, homeschools 5 children, and wife.
Life can be so many things: joyous, challenging, sad, and as we have seen in 2020… unexpected. You never know when something will happen that can bring you to your knees.
Jamie, my amazing wife and dedicated mother to our 5 children, was having headaches. This is how the story goes, isn’t it?
You just think it’s going to pass so you push through every day and then it just gets to a point where you have to seek help.
What we didn’t expect was the diagnosis: a rare, life-threatening aneurysm behind her left eye. Not only could the MRI and tests cause a massive stroke but the location made surgery statistically fatal.
It’s hard not only handling emotions for yourself but then to explain it to our children… a parent’s death is simply something a 2-year-old cannot – nor should have to - understand.
But, on September 9th, Jamie underwent surgery at Vanderbilt to remove the aneurysm. The normally 4-hour surgery actually took a grueling 10+ hours as surgeons had to resort to a “plan b” to save her life.
They also found a 2nd aneurysm that we will have to deal with later.
I am self-employed and Jamie stays at home with our kids. So, not having an income since the first week of August has placed an enormous burden on us financially.
We are doing something that is difficult for us – for the sake of our kids. We need help and ask for donations that will not only directly pay for our mortgage, utilities, car payment but will also help us recover so we can pay the medical bills.
Like so many we simply cannot afford medical insurance so the hospital bills will be out of pocket.
It is staggering to think about but we are thankful at the same time for so many things that are good.
Jamie’s life was saved, our children have their amazing mother and we will, together and with the help of family, friends and even strangers, get through this.
We are accepting Venmo, PayPal, gift cards, meals and anything that anyone can do to help us in this time.
We believe in the good of others and appreciate anything no matter if you think it is “small”. There is nothing small when it comes from the heart.
