Help Jamie Walk Strong
Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
We’re raising funds for my little sister Jamie; a fierce, joyful, and resilient young woman living with Spina Bifida. Since birth, she’s relied on custom leg braces (bilateral AFOs) to walk, move safely, and maintain her independence. These braces are not optional, they are essential for her mobility and well-being.
Unfortunately, Jamie’s current braces are badly worn out and broken. They no longer provide the support she needs, and using them puts her at serious risk of injury or losing her ability to walk unassisted.
Until recently, her insurance covered new braces annually when medically necessary. But a policy change now only allows for replacement once every five years regardless of medical need...a standard that simply isn’t realistic. Like shoes, these braces wear down, stop fitting, and break down with time, growth, and use.
Despite three appeals, letters from her doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and peer-to-peer reviews, insurance continues to deny coverage.
We’ve exhausted every channel, and now we’re turning to our community for help.
What We’re Asking For
We’ve been quoted $6,000 for a new pair of braces that will get Jamie walking safely again. Our $12,000 goal will cover:
• This year’s urgently needed braces
• Future replacements and necessary adjustments
• Any medical travel, fittings, or physical therapy not covered by insurance

Jamie faces more than her fair share of challenges, but she moves forward with strength, humor, and grace. She just wants to keep walking through life...literally and safely.
