Jamie needs new Hot Wheels

Hi my name is Jamie,

First of all, thank you for taking time to read my story.

I have had cerebral palsy since birth. It affects all four limbs and results in me having to use an electric wheelchair. My current wheelchair, a Permobil F3, is nine years old and becoming too expensive to repair. The average lifespan of a wheelchair like mine is 8 to 9 years so I have nearly exceeded the lifespan of the chair.

Due to being 36 years of age, I am no longer eligible for funding from many charities. As a result, I will have to raise the bulk of the money myself. I'm looking to raise around £20,000 for a new Permobil F3 (the newer version of my current one).

This wheelchair is essential for my day-to-day life, it is my legs, it is my independence. I am in my wheelchair 12 to 14 hours a day and without it I would be in bed all day. This wheelchair will hopefully last me another 8 to 9 years like my previous model and is also the cheapest model that fits my needs.

This wheelchair is essential for my social life. I am a very outgoing person. I love socialising, being with my friends and going to gigs, festivals, just having a laugh. I am a sit down stand up comedian and if you live in Cambridge you've probably seen me perform at the Cambridge Fringe or in the local bar/venue around Cambridge. I love stand up comedy, both performing and watching.
One of my biggest passions in life besides comedy, is football… I love watching football and I'm a big Chelsea FC fan. I know I should probably add that as one of my disabilities. I also support my local team of Cambridge United.

I am to live life to the full as you would say. My disability has never held me back and I have always tried to be as independent as possible in what seems to be a terribly inaccessible world.

My plan to raise money for my new Permobil F3 is to do as many fundraising events as possible which obviously includes comedy gigs, so if you are reading this and you have a venue which is wheelchair accessible and you are willing to put on a comedy event, please get in touch.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story! Please share it far and wide on your socials every share spreads my story.

Cheers Jamie x
