Jamie's Robotic Arm Fund

Donation protected
This is the start of Jamies journey, some of you will have seen over the last few months and him being able to use his left "hand" for the first time ever in 10 yrs.

Before Christmas 2017 we had approached Team Unlimbited for a 3D printed UnLimbited Arm, but being as busy as they were we were then informed there's an 18 month waiting list. Thats when our journey together started, looking into 3D printers etc and which one to buy to be able to "print our own", we watched YouTube video's on how these printers worked and took the plunge before Christmas and bought an Anet A8 which we contructed ourselves, a few weeks later our first 3d arm was produced and for the first time jamie managed to hold my hand, hold a torch and even play catch with a ball, priceless really.

After sharing on a few Facebook forums as a way to thank people for their support and to show his achievement, his videos were shared worldwide, he appeared in The Mirror, in The New York Post, front page of the Gazette and the ITV news, all within a week, crazy really.

A few months on and I now wish to help Jamie further, as he wants to develop things himself and maybe even look into a career within the 3D and robotic limb industry, and to build his own fully robotic arm not just for Jamie but also to assist others.

A fully developed arm currently costs around £10,000 + and even Jamie himself thinks this is too much. With current technology etc, buying our own sensors, electrics and motors we feel these can be devoloped on a budget, and to try an utilise current options within the market place. I've opened this gofund page to assist in buying or upgrading his current 3d printer, to purchase a 3d scanner, motors and sensors to help him on his way.

We would love any local schools or colleges within the North east to get in touch if they are into developing robotics and electronics if they feel it could help, assist or develop a robotic arm as a project, or anyone else wishing to get involved in helping, or anyone who can assist in any area of this field.

This isn't going to be an overnight thing, and we're aware it will take time. but feel current technology today is at a level for the home user to be able to do this, and at a reduced cost to current options.

Any money raised will be used for printer upgrades, other equipment and scanners, electronics and sensors and consumables, and we also wish to build arms/limbs for other children in a similar situation to Jamie while we're developing this and new designs.

Overall, Jamie is hoping the coverage he's received to date will highlight what is available to children like himself, who may be unaware they can also print an arm themselves just like he did. I hope you can help him along his way and any help or funds will go towards this.
