Jamie Manson clinical trial support

Donation protected
The family and friends of Jamie Manson are starting this GoFundMe to support costs associated with cancer treatment.

This GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of Jamie Manson. Jamie, 52 and confined to a wheelchair part of the time now, has advanced parotid cancer, a rare cancer of the salivary glands which has spread to other parts of the body.  After more than two years of surgery, numerous chemotherapy sessions, immunotherapy and radiation, all to little avail, he is participating in a Carisma CAR-M clinical trial at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center (Duarte, CA; just outside of Los Angeles). CAR-M is a cutting-edge form of immunotherapy that takes T-cells (immune cells) from a patient’s blood and ‘reprograms’ them to recognize and attack a specific protein found in cancer cells. These cells are then reintroduced back into the patient where they get to work destroying targeted tumor cells.

As many of you know, Jamie is a professor of chemistry at Eastern Washington University (EWU) in Cheney, WA. He is currently involved in a newly funded, three-year grant of more than $395,000 from the National Science Foundation to coax atoms into novel configurations using chemical methods to produce new, potentially groundbreaking alignments of their electrons. His work involves numerous EWU undergraduate student researchers and colleagues from around the world.

Recently, he was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), a distinction signifying his outstanding contributions to physics.

Although a portion of the medical expenses will be covered by insurance, participation in this CAR-M trial will require travel to/from Spokane-to-Duarte for approximately six months. The funding is intended to help offset the costs of housing, transportation and associated living expenses while in Duarte.

Without this treatment, Jamie’s life expectancy is 1-2 years at best. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
