UPDATE...

Hello again! Jamie is one week post-op and is doing extremely well, considering. I have been with her at her home in NC this week and I must say she's actually being a very good patient!

Surgery went well. She is still very sore but very strong! Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon appointment also went well and her incisions are healing nicely. She got a call from her Surgical Oncologist this morning and of the 3 lymph nodes they removed, one was positive and 2 were negative. She has 2 follow up appointments in 2 weeks to discuss her possible treatment plan (radiation/chemo) and reconstruction of her breast.

Jamie thanks you all SO much for all the texts, messages, calls, cards, flowers, food, love, prayers, and support shown over this last week. So many family members and friends that she is beyond grateful for. Thank you VERY much for the donations! It has definitely helped tremendously offsetting the overwhelming medical bills thus far. Hello. My name is Rachael Lucas. I am Jamie's older sister. I never in a million years thought I'd be sharing a cancer story for my little sister, but here we are. Jamie was diagnosed with Stage 2 Nipple Duct Carcinoma in June. She is a very private person and always handles everything on her own. She isn't one to ever ask for help but she is always the first person to be there to help others. We want to be able to do the same for her! It took a little time for me to convince her that a VILLAGE is needed for a support system.

Jamie has a great team of Doctors & Nurses at Duke Cancer Center in Durhan, NC that she is extremely comfortable with and confident she will have a full recovery. She is undergoing surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, August 8th for a Mastectomy, Biopsy of Lymph Nodes to make sure they are clear and tissue expander placement for breast reconstruction.

Once the Doctors determine if she needs radiation/chemo and is cancer free, she will undergo the surgery for reconstruction.

We are sharing her story, with her permission, and creating this fundraiser to help with the medical bills not covered by insurance, treatments and the residual bills we all have. She will be out of work for a few months. We hope to ease the burden on her family by relieving some financial pressure so that her husband, Rocco can focus on providing the best care for Jamie, while she fights this difficult health battle.
