Jamie Benzelock- Never ever give up Medical Fund
Hi there,
My name is Jana and I am writing today reaching out for support for someone very near and dear to my heart. Someone who has taught me to Never Ever Give Up regardless of what challenges we face. Since the beginning, this man has known pain illness and suffering. Being diagnosed with Neutropenia very young, going through several procedures, surviving through life threatening hospital stays where we were told he may not make it. Spending more time in hospitals than at home, I remember days where I myself couldnt understand how or why he could keep such a positive outlook. Missing out on the typical childhood, playing outside, going to school, sports, etc he never complained or felt sorry for himself. In 2014 we got devasting news that a transplant would be needed in order to continue living . Once again, he was faced with lengthy hospital stays, chemo and isolation. By the grace of God, a donor was found and a stem cell transplant was done on June 5th 2014. A new chapter, a new story to be written....this man, this strong amazing man is my brother, Jamie Benzelock.
Fast forward to 2020...
We received some unfortunate news, the last week of October began with a number of tests, and procedures. Jamie developed what is called a fistula in his abdomen. It’s something He had 18yrs ago after his emergency surgery in 2002, which had healed. Now 2020 brings the challenge of diagnosing the why’s, where’s, when, and what caused it? After an MRI, Two CT Scans, fistulogram and colonoscopy, it was determined that he had an enterocutaneous fistula that would need to be repaired. This particular fistula would not get better on its own. Therefore after exhausting all his options Jamie consulted with a surgeon. He has recommended surgery, which will start as an laparoscopic surgery, but if scar tissue appears to be a problem, he will then have to go the old fashioned route (operate by cutting open the abdomen). While surgery poses many health challenges and risks, He is in a far better position than he was 18 yrs ago. All of his blood counts are exceptional, his healing is one of a normal healthy person, and the images the surgeon has, have given him a fairly clear picture without physically seeing it first hand. Jamie’s surgery is scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2021.
Jamie met the love of his life Jennifer and her son Anthony . Jamie moved to the United States after having his transplant and receiving a clean Bill of health to begin the second part of his life that included beginning a family with Jen and Anthony. He completed his schooling and graduated with highest achieving Honors and as he was to begin his career , he received the unfortunate news of having this fistula develop. His insurance from school runs out in mid January. He has been attempting to acquire health insurance, the question that he keeps being asked by the insurance providers is regarding once having Leukemia. This ultimately disqualifies Jamie from any “attainable, and or affordable”
In conclusion I am requesting any type of support to help with his medical Bill's that will be coming up on january 8th 2021. I appreciate all and any support. My brother is a kind, hard working loving man who finally has a chance to live a life he so deserves. Please find it on your heart to donate and spread awareness towards his cause if you are able, as he deserves all the happiness and health.
