James's Stroke: Family Needs Your Support

This is our story of how our lives changed in an instant. On April 13, 2025, at 1 am, I received a call from the hospital saying my husband, James, had been involved in an accident. Without giving me any information, they told me I needed to get to the hospital. Fearing the worst, I called my daughter to pick me up, and we headed there. Upon arriving, we discovered he had been involved in a hit and run. A driver ran a red light and crashed into my husband. My husband had multiple fractures: fractured ribs, fractured spine, and 2 fractures to his pelvis. He spent 2 days in the hospital where he received pain meds and physical therapy. Once released, he seemed to be doing great, still moving slowly but staying upbeat. His only complaint was a headache that would not go away. Then on Saturday, April 19, he was eating breakfast when he got really dizzy. I helped him to the couch and went to our bedroom to get dressed to take him back to the ER. While I was getting dressed, James felt nauseous and went to the bathroom to vomit. When I came out of the bedroom, he was laying on the bathroom floor. His speech was slurred, and he couldn’t get up. EMS was called and transported him to the hospital. After running several tests, they determined that he had a stroke. All the doctors agreed that his stroke was caused by the accident. James was working for Uber at the time, our only income other than a small disability check from the VA. His VA check is not enough to cover even our utilities. I started this GoFundMe to help cover the cost of rent and everyday living expenses while he recovers. The insurance companies involved and our attorneys are saying it will be a long time before any compensation is paid due to continued doctors' appointments. They have stated that it will be at least 6 months before he can return to normal activities and work. Any donation, whether it be $1, $5, or $10, is greatly appreciated. We are also in need of a cheap used vehicle to get him to his appointments. This was the 2nd vehicle in 4 months to be totaled by accidents caused by someone else. We are just trying to cover rent, utilities, groceries, and maybe a small used vehicle. Again, any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
