Hello, family and friends, we are the Mace Family Brenda, Ian, Alyssa, & Erin.
Jameson, son of Allen Gross and Carissa Mace was born with a Sacral Dimple, and hair tusk which leads to the spinal cord called a Teratoma Tumor. However, the surgeon at CHOP was able to remove it only losing part of his tailbone. They have continued to follow care with CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) periodically. At the last visit, his labs were elevated. This sparked attention and planned an MRI to be completed. Upon completion of the MRI, they found some residue at the source of the teratoma. However, upon removal, they noted another tumor from a different source. They had it biopsied, and it came back malignant. It is at the Sacrum (2 cm x 1.5 cm) noted as a Stage 3 Yolk Sac Tumor. Allen and Carissa have decided to move his care closer to home finding a great cancer center at Reilly’s Children's Hospital Lehigh Valley Health Network due to the long drives and stress involved on Jameson and the Family.
The chemo is 4 cycles 21-day protocol 5 days of chemo days 1-5. The physicians and cancer care team at LVHN have been wonderful, they are taking great care of him getting started with treatments. They are taking the time to explain treatments and going into depth with each aspect of having to do with Jameson’s care in this Fight against Cancer. He is a mighty warrior. Jameson has been very upbeat and what we would expect out of a one-and-a-half-year-old throughout this entire process.
Instead of playing outside with his brother Dylan and learning things that other toddlers are learning at this age, Jameson will be spending his days undergoing treatments. He will also be immunocompromised throughout his treatment. There will be many dynamics associated with his care such as diapers, and foods that he eats, and the environment surrounding this all bring contaminants to his already immunosuppressed health from his treatments. He will not be able to play in the dirt as such boys love to get dirty and play with the new friends he made at daycare, this will not be the typical routine for 1 ½-year-old Jameson. Common viruses, bacteria and fungal infections that would not phase you or me are life-threatening to him.
Over the past few weeks, the outpouring of love and support Allen and Carissa have received has been heartwarming and humbling. Jameson has a long road ahead of him and it will be a difficult and costly battle for his parents.
We set up this page to hopefully help alleviate some of their financial burdens during this heartbreaking time. If you can afford to donate any amount of money, regardless of how small, it is gratefully received and endlessly appreciated. Your donations will be used for various expenses such as medical bills, prescriptions, co-pays, gas money for medical appointments, basic needs, covering the loss of income of parents, and other unforeseen expenses that undoubtedly, they will have.
But above all, we ask for your love, support and prayers during this difficult time. Jameson has shown us that he is brave and strong beyond his years and that he will fight to beat this terrible diagnosis. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
"If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you" -Mathew 17:20 (The Holy Bible)
