James Timykoglou is a 20 year old Brain Cancer Patient; Glioblastoma Glioma to be exact (which is the same type of cancer the late Gord Downey had), a rare form of brain cancer most typically surfacing in adults ages 40+.
The family has undergone some excellent treatment at Sunnybrook Hospital by the some of the greatest Canadian physicians. His tumor is unfortunately inoperable and terminal. They have already had a biopsy conducted to diagnose his cancer, which was all that could be safely removed. He has undergone 35 treatments of radiation on the primary tumor which is the maximum safe dose and exhausted the only two available chemotherapy drugs available for brain cancer.
10 months after being diagnosed, he is now at the last possible option which is an immunotherapy infusion called Avastin. This particular drug is not covered only in Ontario. Every other province in the country does cover the drug. Each infusion costs roughly $5,500 and is infused by IV every three weeks.
James, if you know him like I do, is one hell of a fighter. During the past 10 months, he has already lost the continuation of his university degree, lost the ability to drive (his passion and part time hobby), and more recently, some of his vision and his ability to walk steadily.
It is with my deepest gratitude that I come to you now, asking to help out my best friend, and brother. We need help to pay for the IV treatments, which is our last hope and is much needed.
