Anyone who knows James Sung knows how much of an animal lover he is. A funny guy with a big heart. And one of the largest vegans we've ever seen.


On Friday July 29th James was admitted to the ICU at Emory in Johns Creek with respiratory complications. He had been coughing up blood and mucus and was having a hard time breathing. His oxygen levels dropped to the 60-70% range as his lungs filled up with fluid. Doctors intubated him and he awoke two days later with the breathing tube still in. After a four day stay in ICU he was finally transferred to the regular wing for duration of his stay.


James was diagnosed with a combination of ailments during his hospital visit: Pneumonia, pulmonary edema which filled his lungs with blood and fluid, hemoptysis, cardiomegaly, cardiomyopathy, acute respiratory failure, and acute left systolic congestive heart failure. The last diagnosis being the most shocking one. One that has changed his life forever.


“The heart failure is the thing that has everyone concerned. My heart is pumping at less than/about 50% of what it should. It hasn't all hit me yet, I just take my medicine and try to sleep.” says James.


James is a beloved bartender/server at a restaurant in Buckhead, Georgia. It is common in the restaurant industry for staff to be denied access to healthcare through work. So we are hoping to raise funds for James to assist with his hefty hospital bills and get him on the road to recovery.
