James Steere died suddenly and peacefully at his home in Derry, New Hampshire, on November 1, 2026, at age 55. He is survived by his wife, Trisha, and their two children, Zachary (14) and Zoey (10).

I’m Jason, and James was one of my best friends. He helped found our Thursday night gaming group, and for 25 years he showed up nearly every week with his headset on. At our yearly in-person “Geekend” he brought songs, stories, and mayhem. He also helped start our fantasy baseball league, which still drafts by “Steere’s Law.” His puns were relentless, and we’d give anything to groan at one more.

Most of all, James loved his family. He read Terry Pratchett aloud to them and gave every character a voice. He shared the things he loved with them: sci-fi and fantasy, acting, LARPing, Renaissance Faires, and the Red Sox.

He was so proud of Zachary and Zoey. We started this fundraiser to make sure they can go to college. Every dollar will go to a trust for their care and college education.
Whatever you give will be deeply appreciated, and if you can’t give right now, please share this page with others who knew James.

Thank you for being here for them. Looking after Zachary and Zoey’s future is the best way we can honor James.
