James suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on October 9 and is in rehabilitation now. He is unable to work and his wife and daughter are living with him. James will need rehab for some time and needs help with medical and living expenses. Between the loss of income and payment of medical and home care expenses, the need is urgent.
Currently he is unable to use his right side, but his friends are hopeful that his recovery will progress rapidly. He has already regained some use of his right hand and foot.
He has been a major force in the San Diego County bluegrass music community for many years. As a band leader, mandolinist and guitarist, he has helped encourage others to enjoy this music.
As part of the fundraising effort, his friends and the North County Bluegrass and Folk Club are holding a fund-raising event on December 1, 2019 at Tanya Snyder's red barn in Valley Center, CA from 12:00 to 6:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend, and musicians are welcome to come play as part of the event, which includes Tanya's famous tamale making and other good food. We will share more details as the event is being planned now.
