James’ Road to Recovery after Hit by Drunk Driver

As many of you know, James Hudgins sustained debilitating injuries as a result of being victimized in an accident by an underage drunk driver. On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, James was on his normal morning commute to work when the drunk driver made a sudden left turn in front of him at the intersection of FM 455 and FM 51 in Slidell, TX. This resulted in James being thrown off his motorcycle while traveling between 60-70 mph. By the grace of God and an excellent helmet and other safety equipment, he is still here with us today but is on a tumultuous road to recovery.

James has had 9 surgeries to date and has not been able to walk or work since his accident. He sustained a severe open fracture to his left ankle and foot resulting in subsequent complications which have delayed his recovery. He also sustained an open fracture to his left arm, and other minor fractures which have thankfully recovered.

Between his 3 extended hospital admissions, James has been busy going to hyperbaric therapy to heal his wound, physical therapy, and numerous doctors appointments. His persistence and strength is admirable as this is such a difficult situation and so many of his freedoms and joys have been stolen from him.

As of today, March 19, 2023, James is still admitted to the hospital and is unable to walk, work, or participate in the everyday activities that we all take for granted. Him and his wife, Sandy Hudgins, live on a farm in Slidell, TX. As spring begins, this is the time of year that James is typically busy with the upkeep of the farm.

His medical bills are substantial, he is unable to work, and him and Sandy are going to have to begin outsourcing tasks they were previously able to do themselves. The generosity of his friends, family, and the community is greatly appreciated. Your love, support, and prayers are much needed.
