James Nicholls Fight Against COVID-19
As you may know James Nicholls has been in the ICU fighting for his life due to COVID-19 for the past 2 weeks. He is sedated and hooked up to an ECMO machine, ventilator, and getting dialysis, all while fighting lung damage, blood clots and a host of other things. It has been a difficult battle so far — with good and bad days, and many ups and downs of reports, numbers, etc. I think one of his nurses summed it up well saying, “This is a marathon, not a sprint.”
If you’ve met James, you know he is tall. As it turns out, hospital beds aren’t made for people who are 6’7” and as we are finding out, neither are breathing tubes. They aren’t long enough for him so they have caused some bleeding in his lungs.
But...things are starting to look up! Hallelujah! There is talk about taking James off ECMO. His chest x-rays are starting to look better and his kidneys and liver are continuing to improve. He has an amazing team of doctors, nurses, and medical staff taking care of him.
However, all of this specialized medical care, as well as future medical and rehabilitation expenses, adds up. We are asking for any contribution you are able to give to help the Nicholls family with medical fees and other living expenses that may arise while James continues to stabilize and heal.
Thank you for all your prayers, text, emails, phone calls and food deliveries for my sister & her family. They really need it!
My sister is a rock star throughout this. If you’ve read her journal entries on Caring Bridge, you will see how much strength, courage, love and patience it takes to understand and then update all of us. Calling the ICU for updates, talking to the nurses and doctors and then writing these incredible updates with grace, knowledge and a little humor. She is amazing!
Caring Bridge for James Nicholls
We are continually praying for James to come home to his sweet family who miss him terribly.
