In the year 2001 James was riding his motorcycle in San Jose, California and had an accident severing his left arm at the elbow. He has been able to adapt and function while managing to live a relatively normal life but has endured significant pain due to the nature of his injury. James has overcome many obstacles including opioid addiction that began with pain medication.
He has been clean and sober for almost 2 years now and has the desire to build a state of the art addiction center that is way outside the box using some emerging technologies and filling many of the holes found in the current, antiquated process of addiction treatment. He has devised a new way to help others overcome addiction and the many challenges it brings with it.
Today, seventeen years after his crash James is now the father of a 13 month old boy and has embarked on a new chapter in his life. He has also begun a career path in the medical field, helping doctors with regulatory compliance.
James has spent the last year and a half applying for a new prosthetic hand and has finally been approved. This is a fully functional arm that will operate based on nerve impulses. His new prosthetic will cost nearly $120,000.00 and must be paid for before August 1st 2019. Funding has been approved for the majority of his new arm. The $10,000 will cover the deficiency balance and the 30+ trips from Reno, Nevada to San Jose, California to fit, build, and learn how to use his new arm as he currently resides in Reno.
