My dad spent the better part of his life in prison, he missed out on so much. He served his time and was released a few years ago. He started having difficulty breathing, they at first thought it was his heart. About 6 weeks ago his cardiologist told him it was his lungs and to go see a pulmonologist. The diagnosis was not good, they said it was likely pulmonary fibrosis. Pulmonary fibrosis has a 100% mortality rate in 2-3 years. This was devastating to all of us especially him because it was a possibility that black mold in prison caused it. He did his time, he became reformed but prison wouldn't let him go, even as a free man. He wanted to be 100% certain as to what type of pulmonary fibrosis he had so they decided to do a biopsy of his lung. He walked in on his own without oxygen doing pretty well. He was planning how to live his life to the fullest for whatever time he had left. Knowing what kind it was would help with the fight to live as long as possible. The biopsy took him to his knees, he has never recovered. His oxygen levels will not normalize. He has been in the hospital now since the first week of August. Last Friday he took a turn for the worse, the only way to keep him alive was to sedate and intubate. He is still sedated and not doing well. He needs a transplant but no one will accept him while he is in the condition he is in. The hope is that his lungs will heal enough during sedation that he can be taken off the ventilator and get back on oxygen. If we can achieve this then there is hope for a lung transplant. His bills are mounting and he needs help until he can get back on his feet and I believe with everything in me that this will happen but it's going to take time. You may know him as Doc, or maybe JP depending on when and where you met him. I only know him as Dad and I'd like to have him around a bit longer. It's a long road ahead so if you can help monetarily then we thank you, if not then say a prayer for my Dad and we thank you.
