Funeral for James Lapp

My name is Justin Novak, the stepson of an amazing man, James Lapp. I was home on Leave in Ohio from the Air Force, currently stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. My little brother had a few events this week leading up to senior night on Friday, and we just lost our father in February, so I flew home to walk him down the field with our mom, Ramona. As I was leaving my mom's house after dinner with the football team, I heard my mom shriek my name in a way I'd never heard her before. I immediately ran back inside to find Jim on the ground on his side. As my mom was on the phone with 911, I prepped him for CPR. After a few minutes of chest compressions, Paramedics arrived and relieved me from what I was doing. They loaded him into the ambulance and raced to the hospital, unable to establish a pulse before leaving the house. Once at the hospital, the family was moved into a private room and delivered the news that Jim had passed away. Just earlier this week, he started a new job as a Data Analyst Programmer and was the happiest he had been in a long time. Due to starting this new job, his life insurance benefits did not take effect until December. Jim leaves behind my mother to take care of my little brother and our two younger cousins, 11 and 12, whom my mom and Jim had just fought for custody of in the last year. After returning home, my mom looked at us and said, "I know this may not be the right time, but I think I'm going to have to sell the house". My mom has given more of herself to take care of others than she has ever asked for. I had to convince her that maybe this time, she was the one who needed help. We are trying to raise enough money to help her pay for the funeral. We appreciate you taking the time to read this and can't express how thankful we are for any donations. We have received an overwhelming amount of support in just the first few hours, we never imagined so many people would bless us with open hearts. We are still working on the details for the funeral arrangements, but all of the estimates we have received are significantly more than our original goal. I hope you understand our decision to increase the goal and allow us to give Jim the funeral he deserves.
