James King & The Midnight Hours have received a fantastic opportunity to record their first full length album of original material with Toronto producer/engineer Alex Gamble at Union Sound Company, a top of the line studio. After a creative and thorough budgeting for costs, we have discovered we can accomplish this by reaching our fundraising goal of $10,000. Costs include (but are not limited to): studio rental, mixing, mastering, musician fees, equipment rentals, album design, hard copy manufacturing, and marketing. Our goal is to head into the studio in February 2020, with many pre production costs fast approaching. Recording and distributing an album is a cost prohibitive venture in the Canadian music climate we find ourselves in, which is why we need your help.
Recording this album would allow us to produce quality content for you, our fans, followers and friends. We intend to reach a larger fanbase, allowing us to expand outside the GTA, currently our main hub of support. Completing a record is a vital step in us reaching this new market.
The group features a collection of multi-talented Toronto-based artists: Gaby Grice on keys and vocals, Richard Lam on lead guitar, Mike Lee on drums, Daniel Williston on bass and vocals, and James King as songwriter, front man and lead vocalist. Very soon after forming in 2017, they were awarded first place in the Toronto Open Mic Festival at the Paddock Tavern. The prize was studio time, which gave them the opportunity to record their first single, “Nightmare.”
As newly-minted regulars on the Toronto music scene, this led to a year long residency at The Amsterdam Bicycle Club – not to mention a growing dedicated following. In the spring of 2018, the band made the National Top 100 in the CBC Searchlight Competition out of 2,072 artists from across Canada. They continue to perform in venues across the city such as The Cameron House, The Piston, The Hideout, The Supermarket, The Revial, B-Side Lounge and more.
With your support to make this album a reality, you would be directly assisting in the realization of three years of hard work that has included building an audience, countless hours of rehearsal, networking with excited industry professionals, and laying the groundwork for evolving the group by playing bigger and more ambitious shows month after month.
