James (Jim) McCaffrey with Medical Expenses

Hello Everyone, on Oct 16, 2023, my dad had several seizures in his hospital bed at home. He was rushed by ambulance to AGH and admitted to the ICU where they did testing on the cause of the seizures which resulted in finding a blood infection. The blood infection had caused some slight vegetation to his heart. Doctors say this is treatable! They believe the source of his infection was in his right shoulder where he had a shoulder replacement previously. They were able to go in and scrape out anything bad and replace any bad hardware essentially giving him another shoulder replacement. In the meantime he still has a fractured humerus in his left arm. Prior to this hospitalization, he had been in and out of hospitals and skilled rehabilitation facilities. He still has pre-existing conditions like copd and cancer. He has not been able to have the surgery needed for his cancer because of ongoing health issues. At this point, his insurance will no longer cover for him to go into a skilled rehab facility to get the rehab he needs. He is unable to use his right arm as he just had surgery and he has very limited range of motion with the fracture in his left. He can't feed himself, he can't use either of his arms, and he needs to rebuild muscle in his legs to be able to stand and eventually walk. He is basically bound to his bed until he can get properly rehabilated.

My goal is to help offset some of the costs of the continued care that he desperately needs while at home. Insurance will only cover a home health aide to come twice a week, physical therapy twice a week and a nurse once a week to draw labs from his picc line. If he was in a skilled rehab facility he would get 6 days a week therapy. He requires two people to roll him to change him. Private pay is the only option to get more help in his home to help him get back to where he needs to be. Time is of the essence as it seems his health only maintains for two weeks then he is right back in the hospital.
We appreciate any donation or just happy healing thoughts you can share! Please share with anyone who you think would help our cause. We appreciate everyone's prayers for Jim during his journey thus far.
Jim has always been willing to be there for others and I hope others will be here for him when he needs them.
