**James Jachin Coggins Medical Care Fund***
On October 10th, 2022 at 2:49am, James Jachin Coggins was born.
A few hours before James was born as they were preparing for labor and delivery the doctor advised the NICU to be on standby in the room due to a minor concern.
After a very smooth labor and delivery, the NICU was not needed. Everything was looking very good and “normal”.
After two days in the hospital, James was discharged from the hospital after a final exam of James on Wednesday afternoon, October 12th!
James’ parents, Jake and Kharina were so excited to be taking their baby boy HOME! A few hours after being home they noticed that James began to turn a “bluish” color while he was feeding.
This concerned them in a huge way, so they called a health care professional for advice and then rushed him back to the hospital.
After getting to the hospital his Oxygen level was in the low 40’s! They immediately put James on a ventilator and began extensive testing to figure out what was going on. If they wouldn’t have gotten James to the hospital when they did, this could’ve ended another way! We are all thankful to God that it didn’t!
After many tests, blood work, etc…the lead neurologist wanted to get a team of doctors on the situation ASAP — they suggested that James be transferred from Lakeland, FL to one of the top Children’s Hospitals in the nation in Orlando, Florida.
Late Thursday Night, October 13th they arrived at the Children’s Hospital here in Orlando.
They now know…
James suffered from Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (Oxygen Deprivation) at some point prior to birth. This means that James’ brain was deprived of oxygen causing the brain to swell. This caused James to have a seizure which resulted in his oxygen saturation levels in his blood to decrease causing his color changes. They really don’t know what could have caused it while he was in the womb and say they will probably never know.
They are still giving him anti-seizure meds. This is something he will eventually not need as they allow his brain time to heal.
Currently, The doctors cannot explain it.
His MRI shows the complete opposite of what the doctors are seeing.
Based upon what the MRI shows they are impressed that he is crying and moving. He should not be moving or crying based upon what the MRI shows. But he is responsive, his blood pressure is good, his oxygen is good, his body is improving and healing.
The doctors are still taking this one step at a time and want to support James completely as he continues to recover but are confident he will recover. All signs show within a few weeks James should be going home and we will continue to pray for his progressive healing as God is just continuously proving himself to us.
They will have him on an EEG for the next 24 hours or so to confirm the seizures have still subsided.
Their ultimate goal is to make sure there is nothing in his body such as an infection or virus even though so far his bloodwork looks fine, but they would rather check to make sure so nothing happened as he is recovering. If they do find anything they will treat it until he is better.
Due to the oxygen deprivation, this can cause the body and it’s organs to need time to heal.
The doctors said they will continue to support him and his body and allow it to heal.
They explained babies are extremely resilient, even more than adults.
It’s just a one step at a time process at this point.
We truly know God has already taken care of James on our behalf and we are believing for James’ complete healing!
Jake & Kharina have received many calls, texts, and etc about how anyone desiring to do so can help them during this time…Here is how:
• KEEP JAMES & THEIR FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS DAILY! This Journey over the last week has not been an easy one for them — Physically, mentally, emotionally, etc. They truly know prayer has power and it HAS worked this far.
• As they do not know the exact cost of treatments already done and what is yet to be done they do know that it will VERY COSTLY over the next few weeks / months to come for current and future medical expenses for James — our goal for this go fund me is to reach $100,000.
All of the money raised here will go directly to the current / future medical expenses for James along with extra costs that arise by them having to stay in Orlando away from our home. Kharina & Jake are currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House on a donation basis per night. They were able to squeeze us in due to the situation even though there was a waiting list. For that we are so grateful!
There is no donation too small or great. We greatly appreciate every prayer and action of support that we are feeling from you all!
