James suffered a massive heart attack at home yesterday morning at roughly 4:30 am. He was rushed by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Lorain, OH. Once there it was discovered that he had 100% blockage, causing the bottom half of his heart to stop working, and multi-system organ failure due to the lack of blood and oxygen. A stint was put in while there. He was then taken by helicopter to Cleveland Clinic downtown, where he was put into a medically induced coma. He was place on a ventilator to breathe and take the strain off of his heart.  The heart attack did a lot of damage. He was woke up briefly yesterday evening to check for brain activity, which he has. Last night he had surgery to implant a device called an Impella, an external pump, which through a catheter in his inner thigh, goes into the bottom of his heart and pumps blood for him, as his heart is too weak do so. They will be waking him back up this morning briefly to check for brain activity, then putting him back into a coma. The coma is necessary so that he does not move and cause any damage to the catheter incision, which could cause him to bleed out. James is 49 years old and the main source of income in his household. I am working with his wife to raise money for expenses, until they are able to determine what is next.
