James F. Haefele Memorial SCMEA Scholarship Fund

To honor our colleague and friend, Mr. James Haefele, who recently lost his life to the COVID-19 virus, Past-Presidents of SCMEA and NYSCAME/Suffolk set up this GoFundMe page to raise funds and to establish a James F. Haefele Memorial Scholarship in recognition of Jim's many years of tireless efforts for the advancement of music education in Suffolk County and New York State. 

"Haefele", as he was affectionately known, served as SCMEA President in 1996-1997 as well as serving as the organization's Treasurer for a number of years. Additionally, Jim served as Zone 14 NYSSMA Representative for two terms from 2008 through 2014. He also served as NYSSMA  Vocal Jazz Chairperson. Jim started his music teaching career in a catholic school before teaching music in the Half Hollow Hills School District for 31 years from September, 1978 until June of 2009.

What made Jim special is his desire to take care of a multitude of responsibilities/tasks without bringing any attention to himself. A well known quote addresses Jim's commitment to do what is best and right, "Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching". ~ C.S. Lewis
