Retired Vietnam Veteran with Unexpected Health Bills- Jim Griffin
My husband, Jim, has had a good life. One where he worked hard and earned his way to get through life. He’s been a proud man that doesn’t ask from others and yet has offered everything to others around him.
He served our country in the army as a paratrooper during the Vietnam war and had some long term health issues after being exposed to agent orange. He didn’t complain about those health issues though, they were proudly earned by doing what he does best, taking care of others.
He has a wonderful family filled with kids, step kids, and grandchildren that he has offered support to over the years. He’s been someone they could depend on for an extra helping hand, some words of wisdom, and he has always been the backbone of this family holding us up.
Ten years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and Jim was there every moment of the process of diagnosis and recovery just as he’s always done, taking care of me. This is my moment to return the favor and take care of him. He won’t ask for the help, but he is in a moment of need.
We recently found out Jim has a mass on the left side of his brain. After exhausting our resources at the VA hospital to get help, I took him to get help from a specialist that would hopefully provide some answers. We’ve found a neurologist that is up for the task of performing the surgery, but I’m suddenly faced with the task of setting up long term care for Jim’s rehabilitation. Our insurance is lacking in the type of coverage we need for at home care and I’m facing a lot of hard choices ahead.
I’m writing this to ask for the help that Jim would never ask for himself, but clearly needs right now. If he’s helped or made an impact on your life I’d love hear your stories and any contribution would be greatly appreciated at this time.
Thanks everyone
