El 30 de octubre del presente año, John James Usma Quintero perdió su vida, víctima de una persona que tomó la decisión de manejar bajo el efecto del alcohol. James, como le solían decir sus familiares y amigos, iba en camino a su casa en su cicla cuando una mujer lo atropelló. El jueves 31 de octubre hubo un juicio en el cual la jueza dejó libre a esta mujer con una fianza de $1,000.
Aparte del dolor que deja la partida de James, existen gastos fúnebres y familiares. James deja atrás dos hijas de 15 y 8 años que actualmente residen en Colombia. James estaba en Estados Unidos con una visa de trabajo viviendo el “sueño americano” que consiste en trabajar horas incontables para mantener a su familia. Como muchos de nosotros, era un inmigrante, un padre, un hijo, un amigo, pero más importante, un ser humano.
Nuestra comunidad ha sido muy generosa en varias ocasiones. Le pido a quien pueda que por favor nos apoyen a los familiares y amistades en este momento tan doloroso. Por favor pasen la voz, no dejen que esta injusticia de parte de la corte y de la mujer que le arrebató la vida a James, quede impune. James no tuvo otra opción que dejar a sus seres queridos y sueños atrás. Su vida no tenía un valor de $1,000, simplemente no tenía precio.

On October 30th 2019, John James Usma Quintero had his life taken away from him by a person that decided to make the poor decision of drunk driving. James, as family and friends used to call him, was on his way home on his bicycle when a woman struck him. On Thursday October 31st there was a trial in which the Town Justice released this woman on a $1,000 bail.
While trying to bear with the pain of losing such an amazing human being that had many dreams, there are many other funeral costs to cover as well as family expenses. James leaves behind two young daughters, ages 15 and 8, that currently reside in Colombia. He was here on a work visa living the American Dream of working countless hours in order to provide for his family. Like most of us, he was an immigrant, a parent, a son, a friend, but most importantly, a human being.
Our community has been so generous in helping out in other situations. I ask that anyone who can, please support us in such a difficult time for family and friends. Please spread the word, don't let this injustice from the court and from the woman who took James life be left in the dark. James had no choice but to leave his loved ones and dreams behind. His life was not worth $1,000; it was priceless.
