It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of James Gatlauk Guichwang, the President of the South Sudanese Community in Regina, on Monday, September 29th, 2025.

James was a man whose presence brought joy, love, and warmth to everyone around him. As a respected leader, he played a vital role in fostering unity and peace within the South Sudanese community in Regina. Alongside others, James was among the first South Sudanese to settle in Regina, helping pave the way for those who came after. Through his leadership and welcoming spirit, he made the transition easier for many families by creating a sense of familiarity and community.

James was not only a leader but also a mentor and strong supporter of the youth. His humility, kindness, and selflessness touched countless lives. He was a father, son, community leader, and proud South Sudanese man who consistently put others before himself. His legacy will live on through the many lives he impacted.

In this difficult time, we—the South Sudanese youth—are coming together to raise funds to support James’ family with funeral and related expenses. Any contribution will go a long way in helping his loved ones navigate this challenging period and honor his memory.
