Hello my friends, family, and community,
My name is Brandi (Ivy), and my husband is Glenn. We have 7 kids, but I would like to introduce you to our youngest, my stepson James. He is 13 years old and a great student going into a culinary high school next year, here in Las Vegas.
He's got gorgeous big blue eyes and super curly beautiful hair!
Underneath that beautiful head of hair and behind those angel eyes, James' head is full of secrets. You wouldn't know by looking at this gorgeous boy that he is fighting 5 tumors growing inside of his brain.
In November 2017, James went to Salt Lake and had a tumor the size of a golf ball removed. St. Jude didn't take his case as it wasn't the "right type" of cancer.
His father stayed with him. He was in the hospital for 10 days and had to learn to walk, feed himself, and talk again.
Here we are years later, and his birth mother passed away 3 years ago. I am working on adopting him, and last month we finally got an update on his tumors. One of his tumors is active and will need to be removed soon. As in planning for summer between school. "Active" means it has fluid or blood coming from the tumor, which means a high chance of hemorrhage. The other 4 are calcified, but the original one is back, and the active one has doubled in size in 2 years, and the others are new.
He is also now losing brain mass as the pressure increase is causing brain damage. This is progressive, and there is no cure. He is showing personality changes, and he recently failed an eye exam in his left eye and is getting headaches.
His surgeon wants to aim for summer for surgery between school.
He says he's not afraid, but his father, 6 siblings, and I are terrified! He's a strong kid! His surgeon said he most likely will not be able to live on his own when he gets older.
So, our boy, our Super James, will always be with us.
If you can find it in your heart to help in any way, it would mean the world to our family! Thank you for helping us take care of our boy!
