My name is Misti Durham. James Durham was my husband and the father of our kids. He loved being a dad and was devoted to our kids. He was so proud of who they became and how wonderful they truly are. He was excited to be a grandpa in March and over the moon when our daughter landed a full ride to Texas A&M. We lost him on Sept. 29 at 7:23 pm. He suffered a massive stroke just a few days prior, and in spite of all the medical intervention, he went to rest peacefully. He was a handyman in his final years, and being self-employed, he didn't have benefits, so to speak, that could cover his final expenses. We did not have life insurance policies or any financial safeguards in place. He left no will, so the probate process is in effect. He was retired and living like most, paycheck to paycheck, so very little savings, if any, are left. I was assisting with his business, but I have been actively seeking employment when tragedy struck us. Our children are only 18 and 20 and both had just barely embarked on the next chapters of life. His brother is helping with what he can, but I am hoping that anyone who knew him, us, or our children and is able to help us during this time to just help provide assistance with final expenses and help keep what we do have afloat while this process unfolds would truly be a blessing now. He was a generous man, sometimes too generous I felt, but he was happy to give what he had to those who needed it. Animals and babies loved him, and he loved them right back. He spent the majority of his career as a tool and die maker, so long hours in a shop were how he spent his days. He was a senior engineer with two patents he contributed during his time with Mystic Pharmaceuticals. When he wasn't in a machine shop, we owned businesses that he poured himself into. He still had plans, and we thought we had more time. It is precious, the time we do have. He loved baseball and flying kites on the beach. He adored our cat, or his cat, Moon. They napped together often. He loved Gypsy Jazz Guitar and Tyler Childers. He was innovative and always had ideas for new tools or inventions. He loved history and wanted to be an archaeologist growing up. He preferred documentaries over movies, and he blasted music when he cooked. He was an excellent cook and could bake homemade breads that would fill the house with such a smell I won't forget. He had plans to restore his Karmann Ghia and had rebuilt the entire engine, just needed to restore the interior. He loved to hunt and deep-sea fish when he had the opportunity. We miss him dearly, and I know he wanted to be better prepared for his end. Thank you for anything you can offer during this time. And God Bless. His memorial has not yet been scheduled.
