James Dolan Memorial Education Fund

My brother James lost his very brutal, unexpected and swift battle with cancer a short while ago at age 45. We are still in shock and heartbroken to lose such a special, adventurous soul. The gift he left behind is his 5-year-old daughter Nina, a mini carbon copy of James’ personality in all the best ways. We are reaching out to our community to help build a fund to enhance this very bright, beautiful, inquisitive and spirited little girl's education and life.

James ventured to China more than 20 years ago, making it his home. He eventually met and married the dynamic Lingling and brought precious Nina into the world. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he had to leave them both behind and come to the States for treatment. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to bring both Lingling and Nina here to be with James for the little time he had left.

It was James’ fervent wish that Nina get a solid education in both English and Mandarin, the languages of both her parents. As Lingling and Nina return home to rebuild and discover a life without James, we want to make sure they are protected, supported and have the resources they need to pursue a full life.

Lingling is a strong, intelligent woman and mother, unprepared for a life without her husband but determined to give Nina every opportunity. In this spirit, we ask you to contribute to Nina’s education, ensuring that despite this tragedy, the family James left behind has a chance at a better future. It will also strengthen Lingling and Nina’s connection to their American community— building a longstanding bridge for our futures together.

For those of you that miss James as we do, remember what he said to Nina: “When you miss me, try standing in a windy place and when the wind blows, you will know it is me kissing your cheek.”
