Hello everyone,
It is with the heaviest of hearts, I, Chastidy Jones (granddaughter), am announcing James “Cowboy” Atterbury’s transition to go be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
James or “Cowboy”, as he was affectionately called by those who knew and loved him, lived a blessed and enriched 80 years of life until he was called home. His life consisted of God, family, and BASEBALL. With a true passion for the sport, Cowboy achieved his dream and became a professional player for Negro League Baseball as he played for the Philadelphia Stars. He also later played for the Chicago Cubs and California Angels Major League Baseball organizations.
Cowboy was acknowledged in “The Comeback Season” which featured him as well as other players who participated in Negro League Baseball. He lived a full life and touched many who he came in contact with. His gracious spirit and big personality will forever be remembered.
A gofundme has been established in his honor. Thank you all so much!
