After careful consideration and weighing all of our options first, we must ask for help. Last week james was crushed by a tree. He survived thankfully but has suffered extensive damage across his whole body. Unfortunately, he has no insurance and was denied for state help. So far his injuries are as follows,
- a broken left leg
- a broken left ankle
- one break and two fractures in his pelvis (right side)
- A broken left wrist and fractured right wrist
- his bottom lip detached at his gum line
He only has use of his right arm but the wrist on it is fractured, so there is limited use. He is completely bed ridden.
He has already completed two surgeries, one for his leg and one for his lip. They must reevaluate the pelvis after 12 weeks to see if they will do surgery, depending on how it heals. We have been informed the pelvic surgery is a very dangerous procedure and will add months to his recovery. The doctors say it will be about 12 weeks before he can properly sit up and a whole year before he will be able to walk fully.
Right now we are focused on getting James the proper care he needs at a rehab facility, to even get him well enough for me to care for him in a home setting. Currently it takes about three people to hold him in a correct spot for him to go poddy. With no insurance, there are only two facilities that will take him in and the cost is about $400-$500 a day and that does not even cover the cost of the actual rehab itself, within the facility.
When he can come home, he will most likely be in need of a hospital bed (especially if he ends up having the pelvic surgery) a poddy chair, hoyer lift, wheel chair and eventually a walker. He will also need extensive outpatient rehab and follow ups with his surgeons and doctors. This is all not including the bills that have already been incurred.
Again we really didn't want to have to ask for help but we have no choice at all. We appriciate everyone so much even if you can not donate please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers.. as that is equally as important through this process.
James and Shannon
