On August 24, 2021, Jamal made his transition. Jamal was an avid chess player, a professional photographer, an accomplished martial artist, a musician, was fluent in Spanish, and was a Good Son, Nephew, Husband, Brother and Father. We thank you for your prayers and condolences as our family deals with this tragedy. Jamal spent his final days in Mexico where he frequented, appreciating the stars, planets and constellations in the night sky, along with the beautiful sunrises and sunsets off the Baja California coast. His wife Jolene passed away very recently in May 2021. He was in Mexico when he passed away so there are additional expenses (besides normal funeral expenses) transporting him back to Oakland where he will find his final resting place overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Jamal would not have asked family and friends to make a fuss or contribute funds to his memorial, however, his family welcomes your support to honor him with a traditional burial very close to his younger brother, as is customary in their faith. We know this would make him very happy. Jamal meant so much to so many, it is hard to believe that he is not here anymore. The funds are needed to assist in getting him back to the United States, the funeral home expenses, the plot, and the homegoing services. We need the funds by September 10th, 2021. My name is William Earl Ozier and I am one of his three remaining uncles. I live in Stone Mountain, GA, but the services will be in Oakland, CA. Ayori Zena Selassie is one of Jamal's sisters who will be assisting in the funeral planning and use of final expenditures.
