I heard from one sister yesterday in a different area that the rest of the family in Portmore are accounted for and are ok, except they are traumatized and in need of food and supplies and any assistance.

Food wil be in short supply for a while as those main bread basket areas have been severely damaged. Access to food and necessities will continue to be a challenge for the next few weeks.

I can have barrels of staples like rice, four, cooking oil, canned meats, canned vegetables, noodles, spaghetti and sauce, powdered milk shipped down from New York.

The community will also need baby items, hygiene items like soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, sanitary pads, just basic things. Whatever you think a community will need after a hurricane, they will need it.

I would like to go down myself to help with clean up, distribution of supplies, restoration and emotional support.

I know we are all fighting our own personal battles but I'm appealing to you to try to donate whatever you can to help a family in need of basics after such devastation.

Thank you

My family and neighbors in Waterford, Portmore, Jamaica are facing the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. I haven’t been able to reach my loved ones since Monday, and I know that when I do, they—and the entire community—will be in urgent need of food, supplies, and financial support. Waterford is a close-knit enclave where we look out for each other, and right now, everyone is likely struggling with the basics: food, clean water, and safe shelter. The elderly, disabled, and babies in the community will need special attention, and whatever you can imagine a neighborhood would need after a disaster, they will need.

I am organizing immediate relief by gathering barrels of food, water, hygiene products, baby formula, and medicine to ship directly from New York to Portmore. My contacts in New York can shop for supplies and get them shipped quickly, so help reaches Waterford as soon as possible. The first shipment will go out within five days, and any cash donations will be sent directly to families to help them recover and rebuild. We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, but we cannot wait to act. The cost of living in Jamaica is already high, and after a disaster like this, it becomes even harder for families to get by.

Your support will help provide essentials for the most vulnerable—especially the elderly, disabled, and babies—while also giving families the resources they need to clean up, rebuild, and recover. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. If everyone does one thing, together we can help Waterford get back on its feet.
