Hello good day. My name is Steven Nippy Williams and I live up in the mountains in Saint Andrews Parish in Jamaica. Where I live is very remote in the jungle at the top of the mountain. Which is normally paradise.
I’m in my late 50s was born in the UK. I work in the event industry as a head rigger. I first came to Jamaica in the early 90s. And have lived here for 15 years after I sold my business in the UK.
I’m sure you’re very aware that Jamaica was hit by the largest recorded hurricane ever to hit landfall in our region. Here at high altitude, we were definitely pummeled for three days. With the last day being unbelievable.
Yesterday 29 October was a very distressful day for us in the community. The winds have devastated buildings shops homes farms. Landslide has have taken houses completely blocking the roads and destroyed electricity. Trees, electricity, poles, and mudslides rocks block the the road in many places
The community I live in is very poor. It is a great community and very supportive of one another. We have the commitment to rebuild and work together. What we don’t have are resources. Lumber, zinc, roofing, and other building materials to start repairing peoples homes and giving them shelter. As we are still in the rainy season well the hurricane season.
I am appealing to you to help me help my community to get over this tragic and distressing time
I and my community thank you
