Jalyn Continues to Have Crazy Faith

Jalyn White has crazy faith. Months before she even applied for early decision to Spelman College, she knew she would get in. She even went so far as to take her senior pictures in a Spelman t-shirt. She is a brilliant and accomplished young woman who aspires to be an orthopedic surgeon (check out her academic portfolio). When she was accepted for early decision in December, it was a dream come true! Now this dream is in jeopardy because I (her mom) was recently laid off due to the current health and economic crisis.

So many families are going through the same thing. Our story was recently featured in a segment on our local ABC news affiliate because ACCESS College Foundation  has helped us navigate how to make the necessary adjustments to our previously filed financial aid form. Our hope was that by sharing our story, others would have this information as well.


After the news story aired, we never imagined that we would receive such an outpouring of love and support with many people asking how they can contribute to Jalyn’s college education. That is why our family created this Go Fund Me page. This is new for us, and to be honest, it’s a little scary to put our situation out there. However, Jalyn has shown us what crazy faith looks like, so we are stepping out in faith.

The total cost of attendance for her first year is $44,310. A payment of $22,155 for the first semester is due by July 30. So far, Jalyn has received a $3300 scholarship from Spelman for the year. She’s applied for other scholarships as well, however there is no guarantee that she will receive them. We will appreciate any amount you’d like to give.
