My name is Jalen, I’m a mixed black tattoo artist that has been living and working in Montreal Canada most of my 5 year tattoo career
After working at various street shops around the city, and enduring various traumatic experiences of working in all white spaces for me and my clients, the elevation of black voices this past summer prompted me to take a leap and leave my white owned tattoo space to work on a braver space for me and my clientele
While slowly recovering from a burn out, I’ve been fortunate to find a temporary space to tattoo out of! Currently looking for funds to make this space more comfortable in the meantime
Any contribution is appreciated, I’m looking primarily for the support of non-black people for this funding as a form of reparations.
Looking to use this money for a Thermal Copier for stencils, upgraded tattoo equipment, therapy and healing, art/educational books, as well as debt relief from being displaced from several different work spaces in this process
This support means so much as my goal is to continue to better the tattoo industry for the safety of black and indigenous people - and tap into the healing possibilities of this craft dear to my heart.
