Recently, my nephew, Jalen Christopher Ewing, age 21, sought medical attention for what he believed to be COVID-19 related symptoms. Jalen was shocked to learn that the symptoms he was experiencing were a result of advanced stage Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Needless to say, Jalen’s diagnosis caught everyone by surprise. Jalen recently graduated high school in 2018. He is a hard working, family oriented young man who honors his parents and sets an excellent example to his two younger brothers of hard work and responsibility. Since he has been of age to work, he has maintained a job for his family and has been the epitome of the ideal son to my sister Faith Schwartz. A selfless individual, he never complains and even through this, has maintained a positive and upbeat attitude.
Jalen doesn’t have health insurance, and as you can imagine, the costs associated with cancer treatment are astronomical for persons without insurance. Our hope is that with your help and prayers, Jalen will receive the medical treatment he needs in order to beat this disease and continue on with the life we know God has for him.
