I'm Tina Gulmatico Sawyer, and I'm setting up this fundraising page to raise money for the Jalaud Elementary school in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo Philippines, where I attended during the years 1965-1971. I recently visited, in May 2018, and I was inspired to help fundraise for this project. This is one of the first times an alumni is working to bring the gift of JOLLIBEE to the students, so this project is very dear to my heart. You may be wondering... “what’s the big deal about Jollibee?” Well, for most of these children, this will be their first time ever experiencing the joy of a Jollibee happy meal!
The province where I grew up is still very poor. Some of these children don’t even know if food will be on their table for dinner every night. It takes hours to get to the nearest Jollibee in the main city, and is considered only for special occasions or a special treat. Most of the parents can’t even afford to buy a Jollibee happy meal for these children.
I am working with the school to provide all 450 students one Jollibee meal. The cost of a single meal is $3 USD, so we are aiming to raise $1500 to make sure every child receives a meal. The meal will be enjoyed during the town celebration and the children will march in a parade through the streets of the town on February 7, 2019.
Aside from the celebration, I am also working with the Jalud Alumni association to raise money to build these children a new gymnasium. 100% of any extra funds we raise during the Jollibee meal fundraiser will be given in support to help make the gymnasium a reality.
I can’t express enough how far only $5 dollars will go towards this underprivileged community that I once called home. I thank God everyday for the opportunities and privileges He’s given me. Being able to return home and give back to the community that raised me means more than I can put into words.
