Jakub's Road to Recovery

On August 20th,  our brother Jakub was traveling home from Vietnam to Poland and during his layover in Doha, Qatar he suffered a traumatic epileptic seizure. He was transported to a local hospital where doctors discovered a large skull fracture, and underneath a large left-sided extradural hematoma (internal and external brain bleeding) that was caused by the fall from the seizure. Jakub has undergone an emergency surgery which required removal of 35% of his skull and has already spent 2 weeks in ICU in Doha .The episode has caused him to lose mobility of his right side as well as difficulty with memory & speech. The long term outcome for his recovery is still uncertain.

 
Thankfully, Jakub is now in stable condition and recently moved to the High Dependency Neurology Unit at Hamad Medical  in Doha, Qatar, where he is slowly gaining strength each day. 

Despite slow progress with his speech and movement, Jakub faces a long road to recovery that will last months, maybe even years.

 As a family, we are supporting him financially and physically by taking turns flying to Qatar to be by his bedside. However, there is a long road ahead for Jakub as he recovers. This fund will aid Jakub with medical expenses, especially as he did not have insurance, including his hospital stay and rehabilitation in Qatar which could be up to several months, and future assistance he will need for the journey back to Poland and ongoing care once home.
