My name is Yann and I am fundraising for my friend Jakob and his family.

Jakob, a father, husband, son, and brother, an artistic photographer who builds guitars as a hobby, suffered a very serious rupture of an aneurysm, subarachnoid hemorrhage, at the age of 49, first in July and then again while in hospital in September 2024. After being hospitalized and undergoing surgery, instead of recovery, Jakob faced a series of complications caused by hospital-acquired bacterial infections, a prolonged period on a ventilator, numerous surgeries, and unexpected challenges in his treatment. Unfortunately, Jakob is currently unable to eat, move, or communicate on his own.

Sadly, during his hospital stay, Jakob contracted multiple hospital-acquired infections that caused high fevers, further hindering and delaying his recovery. Additionally, due to circumstances that are difficult for us to comprehend, even routine procedures turned out to be problematic. As a result, Jakob underwent around twenty interventions, including procedures typically considered straightforward, such as a tracheotomy, the placement of a PEG tube and catheter, and, unfortunately, several operations to install, repair, and reprogram an internal shunt, which had to be replaced. He also experienced complications with the ventilator, spending on it two long separate periods.

However, after a grueling journey filled with complications, and after five incredibly challenging months in the intensive care unit of the Neurology Department at KBC Zagreb, our brave Jakob was finally discharged from the hospital a month ago. He is now in a rehabilitation facility, beginning a period of recovery and rehabilitation.

All these challenges have further complicated Jakob’s condition and recovery. Despite everything, Jakob has shown incredible strength and reminded us that miracles are indeed possible, defying medical expectations. Most importantly, he continues to fight. And we with him. And for him.

Given the situation, especially Jakob’s serious condition requiring specialized and costly care, as well as the need to provide for three children aged 7, 9, and 11, his wife is unable to maintain a steady income due to her full-time responsibilities in caring for both Jakob and their children. We are raising funds to cover the costs of Jakob’s rehabilitation and to support his family.

Our goal is to bring Jakob home after achieving the best possible recovery through rehabilitation.
