Jake's Journey ~Neurofibramatosis~

Jake Prieur is my cousin on the Lamrock side of the family or as he would say "Renae you're my 4th cousin so we're hardly even related" silly kid cracks me up! I started this fundraiser to help his mom Andrea with gas and vehicle repairs to get him back and forth to Ann Arbor every week . If we're able to raise enough money for a more reliable vehicle by the time winter gets here that would be ideal since treatment will be going for at least the next year!

Jacob is 15 and was diagnosed with neurofibramatosis a few months ago.
"Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that disturbs cell growth in your nervous system, causing tumors to form on nerve tissue. These tumors may develop anywhere in your nervous system, including in your brain, spinal cord and nerves. Neurofibromatosis is usually diagnosed in childhood or early adulthood." Jake has a cancerous tumor on his optic nerve and started weekly chemo treatments to shrink the tumor because it is inoperable. He can develop more and have other complications for the rest of his life. They are doing 1 round of chemo for a year and then decide whats next. He's legally blind and cant get a drivers license so for a 15 yr old thats pretty devastating. His motor skills are effected things that come easy for us like writing and cleaning, riding a bike, swimming is hard for him.
"Optic glioma is the medical term for his tumor.  
Gliomas are tumors that grow in various parts of the brain. Optic gliomas can affect:
One or both of the optic nerves that carry visual information to the brain from each eye

Jake is such a positive kid with a great attitude about life and he recently met with Make A Wish to see if he can meet Eminem and ask him "How'd you do it dude?" He's definately a fighter and with the love, prayers, and support of family, friends, and even strangers he'll beat this and hopefully save what little eyesight he has left!
