Jake's Solo National Three Peaks Challenge
On 29th May 2021 I will be taking on the National Three Peaks challenge and attempting to complete this within 24 hours.
For those who aren't familiar with what the National Three Peaks Challenge is; it involves climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, the 3 highest peaks in their respective countries, and as previously mentioned, I will be attempting to do this within 24 hours, which includes driving time.
The total climbing distance of this challenge is 25 miles and the total driving distance is 467 miles.
I chose Mind as the charity to fundraise for because with every passing day, especially with the year we have just had, mental health is becoming more and more prominent and have seen people who are very close to me struggle as well as going through some tough, dark periods myself.
The importance of charities like Mind in such times are huge and the more money we can raise, the more they can reach out and continue to be a part of helping people through the sometimes inevitable tough times.
Every week, 1 in 6 people experience a common mental health issue and 1 in 5 people have considered taking their own life at some point. These are scary stats considering we all know at least 6 people and just goes to show that you never truly know what is going on behind the scenes in some of your closest people's lives.
So, even if you aren't in a position to financially donate anything to this cause; phone your friends, phone your family, ask how they are and have a chat. Because as mentioned above, you never know what is going on behind the scenes and a phone call just asking how they are might start a conversation that could save someones life, just by being someone who cares and someone to talk to.
Take care of yourselves, take care of each other and thank you in advance for your support!
